On 8.3.2011 an illegal burial was held in the national park around Jerusalem’s Old City walls. This violates Internal Security Minister Avi Dichter’s order that burials should not be allowed in the area of the park. It should be noted, that following a petition by the Temple Mount Antiquities Rescue Committee, the State accepted the position of the petitioners and declared that it already had plans to develop the national park so as to prevent its takeover. Yet, not enough has been done and the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, who is responsible for maintaining national parks, has not fulfilled its obligations to prepare the area to be a national park, as should have been done many years ago.
